You’ve gone from the army to marketing, now modelling, how did this happen?

Aha yeah it hasn’t been quite as linear as that and there has been other roles and education in between. My life has been like a rather boring version of Forest Gump so far :) Well the Army was always where I saw myself from a young age (too many Action Men as a kid) and I really enjoyed my time in training and everything that I learnt from that. Unfortunately, I picked up a knee injury that made completing phase 2 of training unattainable and I had to leave as a result. After going back into education I was lucky enough to be given opportunity to work for a small marketing agency, working alongside marketers gave me a lot of valuable experience and I used this to progress within the company and eventually took a more senior role with a new agency and moved to London.

After a year and a half of working in London I found myself approached by some modelling agencies and decided to give it a go. Select Models offered to represent me and a year later here I am :)

Do you have a designer/ brand that you aspire to working with?

There’s to many designers and brands that I’d love to work with and there’s been some that I have worked with already that I was chuffed to have a chance to. I’d have to go with All Saints or Calvin Klein as they are both brands that I wear a lot.

Modelling is a full on gig- how do you like to relax?

Luckily living in London there’s a lot on offer, I like staying active with things like Gym, Basketball, Running and Muay Thai. I’m a big music fan so whenever I can I like to go to concerts and music events, I love festival season. In the quieter months I have a secret hammock on our roof terrace for general listening to tunes, cloud watching and reading.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?

Well by this time Jennifer Aniston and I should be official and I’ll relocate to the Maldives to run my several successful businesses from the comfort of our Villa.

You’re a keen dancer- has this been the case from a young age?
Yes, I grew up in a family that listens to all different types of music which encouraged me to dance from a young age, but I started taking dance serious around the age of 12 onwards. Me and my friends would dance on the streets with a boombox where I grew up in Fishponds, (Bristol) simply training, exchanging and having fun together. From then to now I have put my all into my journey from training and battling to performing and teaching worldwide. Its truly amazing to see the progression within my journey and I am very grateful and humbled.

Dancing and modelling are pretty full on, how do you like to relax?

When I’m relaxing I tend to be searching for music online that inspire me to move within dance for the next time I train/perform. Also like to relax by playing consoles, drawing and sleeping.

Do you have any exciting projects coming up?
Yes I have a few exciting projects coming up but the most exciting one for myself is my first ever dance video which I’m collaborating with a friend called Kelvin to create something abnormally different through movement and visuals. The video will be based around “ArtWithin” which is the name I give my movement/vision into life and dance. Make sure to keep an eye out for it!!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Haha thats a hard question! Hmmm… Personally I take everyday as it comes but I 100% want to push even further in dancing and modelling.
I would like to have my own arts company called “ArtWithin” which perform crafts in a different unusual light worldwide that others may not be exposed to. As my movement/vision has a difference in the dance scene I want this to be fully exposed to inspire others.

Whats your favourite item from the Serge AW16 collection?
My favourite Serge Denimes item from the AW16 has to be the No Noise Shawlack set!

What age did you start dancing? Is it something you have always wanted to pursue?
I was a chubby little girl and my mum lured me into dance class to get me off my playstation, cliche as it sounds, it was that first class where I fell in love with dance, and I knew then it’s what I wanted to do.

Would you say you had a particular style of dance that you prefer? Either to watch or perform?
I love all styles of dance to watch, to perform I love jazz and commercial dance.

Being a dancer must be very intense and tiring, what do you do to relax?
I sleep a lot! In this industry there’s pressure to always look well presented, so there’s nothing more satisfying than wearing no make up putting on baggy clothes and chilling. I do a lot of yoga too and love getting lost in this city.

Your boyfriend is a musician- do you find that you can be inspired by each other, both working in the performing industry?
100%. He’s the ultimate optimist and is always great to speak to after a bad audition. He is so passionate about making music which is really inspiring. Its definitely comforting to have each other for support in industries which heavily scrutinise.

Do you have any exciting projects coming up?
The most exciting thing about being a dancer is that each week is so different so you never really know what’s round the corner. I’m choreographing a short dance film next week for a new agency, which is exciting as it’s a different role I’m used to on set. I teach part time at Nlpac dance school I enjoy putting together the upcoming shows and watching the dancers excel, teaching is a big passion of mine and probably the most rewarding job I do. I also have a few jobs abroad coming up which I always enjoy as I usually get to travel with my friends.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
I hope in five years time I have worked with more choreographers I admire and artists that I love and travel to more places in the world I haven’t seen. I realise professional dancing can be short-lived, but I’m super excited to see what’s next. Ultimately, I’m incredibly grateful of what I’ve achieved so far, and as long as I’m surrounded by the amazing people I am today, ill be forever happy.

What is your favourite piece from our SS16 collection?
I’m loving the Serge SS16 collection! I truly love it all, but if I had to pick I’d say the Ralston Cut Off Tee and the No Noise Natural Shawlack Jumper!
