Discovering the Path of Music: An Interview with Juno James

Discovering the Path of Music: An Interview with Juno James

Serge DeNimes catches up with emerging artist Juno James

How old were you when you knew music was a path you wanted to pursue?

I was about 7 or 8 years old when I first realized music and singing made me feel my best. The praise whenever I sang definitely encouraged me, and it became clear that this was more than just a hobby—it was a passion.

What is your favourite song you have ever written?

My favourite song would have to be “Easy.” It’s a slower track about loving someone who makes it effortless. Writing about positive emotions can sometimes be harder for me to express, but this song just flowed naturally, making it one of the easiest and most heartfelt tracks I’ve ever made.

What is your favourite part about being on set of a music video?

The freedom in front of the camera is definitely the best part. Music videos allow me to fully express my artistry without the restrictions I often face in modelling. It’s a space where I can truly be myself and showcase my music authentically.

What genre do you specialize in?

I primarily create alternative pop music, blending mainstream pop with experimental sounds.

How would you describe your sound?

Gritty, candid, and empowering. It’s a mix of pop, rock, and hyper-pop elements.

Describe your style in 3 words.

Rock ‘n’ roll, sleek, masculine.

What is your writing process when creating music?

"I thrive on collaboration during the writing process. Before a session, I do a brain dump of all my thoughts and share them with my co-writers and producers. We then experiment with chords on the piano or guitar, and I hum melodies while drawing from my initial ideas. I stay deeply involved in the creative process, guiding the sound and production to match my vision."

What is your biggest goal within the music industry?

I aim to reshape the music industry’s approach to sound and thought. My ultimate dream is to be remembered as an icon long after my career ends. Another major goal is to headline a world tour. Performing live, connecting with thousands of fans, and making a lasting impact on their lives is my driving force.

What is one festival you would love to perform at?

Glastonbury, without a doubt. It’s iconic and has been a dream of mine since childhood.

What artists are in your current music rotation?

Amelia Moore, Noah Kahan, Kid Laroi, Tate McRae, and Post Malone.

Favourite album of all time?

“Three. Two. One.” by Lennon Stella.

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?

Right now, I’d choose Post Malone. His music is raw and honest, with a unique country twang that I admire. Whether we create something upbeat or a slower ballad, I know the blend of our ideas and artistry would be a perfect match.

Do you have anything coming up you could tell us about?

Yes! My next single, “Same Old,” drops on August 2nd, followed by a music video shot in LA a week later. You can get a first little preview of the song on Radio 1 Future Pop, which will be aired on July 31st! The song is all about living life to the fullest and not settling for what’s easy.
